The Bond star shows Bazaar what’s in her beauty bag: Ana de Armas on make-up, mindfulness and getting into character

“Beauty is not just doing your make-up, it’s bigger than that,” muses Ana de Armas in this exclusive video with Bazaar. “It includes good sleep, having a routine, mindfulness, exercise and nutrition – all of those things that make you feel good, completely.”

The Cuban-Spanish actress can currently be seen in cinemas playing one of Hollywood’s most iconic roles, the Bond woman. She’s speaking to us in London, when she arrived for the UK premier of No Time To Die where she stars alongside Daniel Craig as the franchise’s famed secret agent.

When it comes to the construction of a character such as this (and the many she’s played prior), the actress explains that “make-up is essential” – and one of the first things she considers when taking on a persona. “I think it gives you a lot of information about that character,” she says, “you put the make-up on and it already makes you feel like that other person”.

To help keep grounded when away from home, the actress always packs a cherished product. “I have this lavender pillow mist that I travel with – it’s actually from a store here in London, Neal’s Yard. I always spray in on my pillow, so it feels like I’m in the same bed somehow, because it smells the same.”

She also reveals the contents of her beauty bag, which includes the iconic Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum, responsible for making her “wake up in the morning feeling like new”; her signature scent; an “incredible” mascara; “genius” SPF face mist and a rose quart gua sha. “Everyone should have one of these,” she exclaims.

When at home, this face sculpting tool lives in the star’s mini ‘beauty fridge’. “My one piece of beauty advise to everyone would be to have this beauty fridge, and put all your eye creams and serums and beauty tools in it,” she says. Not only does it make your products feel more refreshing upon application, she feels, but it can actually make them more effective.

She also has an excellent red lip trick: “When I do my lipstick I put first concealer all over the edge and then a little powder over it, so I will create a barrier around the lips so the red lipstick won’t bleed”. Then “to seal it completely,” she will use a tiny brush to apply more powder around the edge of her lips. “Then you can carry on all night.”

Whether in front of the camera, on the red carpet or off-duty, De Armas’ beauty philosophy also incorporates mindfulness. The guided meditation app ‘Waking Up’ by Sam Harris “really helps me centre, calm down and reset after a long day or before something,” she reveals.
