WE should say that we’re finding the best sunglasses to protect you from the sun but really, we love the don’t-talk-to-me aesthetic.

Nonchalant, intimidating and effortlessly cool, the best sunglasses aren’t just for summer, they’re a year-round tool to take your look up a notch.

When you find the perfect pair of shades, you end up wearing them year-in-year-out as a staple sun-protection accessory.

As ’70s trends are in full swing, aviators and oversized styles are having a moment thanks mainly to designers like Gucci and Miu Miu.

Rectangular, colourful frames are also trending right now. But you don’t have to shop designer, there are loads of more affordable brands too.

To help you land your next fave pair, we’ve reviewed the best sunglasses for women to shop now. Sunnier days are coming…

 1. Best bargain sunglasses: FANTESI Rectangle Sunglasses

6

  1. (AD) FANTESI 2 Pcs Rectangle Sunglasses, £10.68 from Amazon – buy here

Finessing this season’s favourite rounded rectangular frames, the FANTESI sunglasses aren’t only the best value for money, they’re pretty cool too.

You get two pairs for just £10.68 – one black and one tortoiseshell, perfect for switching up depending on your outfit.

They’re made of lightweight plastic which is unsurprising seeing as they’re so cheap, but they’re ideal as comfy go-to shades if you’re on a budget.

Featuring an almost black-out lens (ideal for covering up hangovers), they’re more of a slightly oversized style than the photos make out.

Without UV protection, these are more of a 90s fashion statement than one for sunny days but as that, we love them.

2. Best sporty sunglasses: JOGVELO Sports Sunglasses

6

  1. (AD) JOGVELO Sports Sunglasses, £18.99 from Amazon – buy here

Featuring a frame made of “unbreakable” TR90 and a nosepad made of TPR, the JOGVELO Sports Sunglasses are for cycling, climbing, golf and all that good stuff.

The five interchangeable lenses of these serious sunglasses are all built with UV400 protection coating and an anti-fog function too.

We’re not a cyclist, but we’re actually obsessed with these.

They’re ridiculously comfortable, good quality and double as an on-trend street style accessory that replicate a Balenciaga pair that we own.

We wore them out for a run to test their staying capability and they didn’t budge an inch whilst keeping our eyes well protected.

They also come with a sturdy zip case and the lenses are easy to change – we love the black-out colour and the mirrored-orange for groovy days.

3. Best Parisien chic sunglasses: Le Specs Major! Toffee Tort

6

  • Le Specs Major! Toffee Tort, £59 from Mister Spex – buy here

We can envision the Major! Toffee Tort shades from Australian eyewear brand Le Specs being seen all over Paris’ street style scene.

Sporting a chunky ’90s-inspired frame, they’re made of BPA free polymer plastic which is apparently lightweight, durable and impact resistant.

In short, these are just as cool as they are comfortable.

They’re chic enough to pass as high-end despite their average price-point, with a tint that lets you see the world brightly unlike some dark sunnies.

The frame’s more sturdy than cheaper pairs on the market too but lightweight enough to wear them all day without any complaints.

From the tortoiseshell to the gold Le Specs hardware on the side, they’re an on-trend pair of sunnies that immediately add an edge to every look.

4. Best trending sunglasses: Barbie x Skinnydip Eyeline Sunglasses

6

  • Barbie x Skinnydip Eyeline Sunglasses, £20 from Skinny Dip London – buy here

Pink tinted glasses are having a moment – Barbie has teamed up with Skinnydip to finesse the trend with their Eyeline Sunglasses.

They’re not just here to look pretty though as they’re complete with 100 percent 400UV protection.

If the sun’s super bright then you might want to opt for darker shades but despite the lighter tint, our eyes still felt protected and relaxed.

We love the happy-go-lucky vibe of this Barbie x Skinnydip design, perfect for beautifying even the simplest of summer outfits.

Oh, and they’re comfortable too as they’re made from light plastic and the oversized feel ensures they’re never too tight.

Try styling them with this season’s favourite pastel tones – selfies galore.

5. Best durable sunglasses: Indescratchables Renew 02 Sunglasses

6

  • Indescratchables Renew 02 Sunglasses, £78.05 from Shopbop – buy here

If you’ve ruined a fair few pairs of sunglasses in your time then we have just the brand for you: Indescratachables.

New to the block, the innovative eyewear label creates scratch-resistant sunnies with smudge-proof hydrophobic coating and “razor sharp focus”.

And they’re pretty nice to look at too. The Crystal Icicle/Smoke Mono Renew 02 design are a personal favourite.

We were surprised at just how bendy the frame is which suggests you’re unlikely to snap them (hello to our fellow clumsy queens out there).

In a retro silhouette, the silver-tinted transparent frame looks great around the almost-blacked-out lenses.

As our first pair of Indestratchables, we were so pleased with the quality and feel of these, loving how versatile a design they are for all occasions.

6. Best value-for-money sunglasses: Powder’s Sadie Sunglasses

6

  • Sadie Sunglasses, £30 from Powder – buy here

After a quality pair of Instagrammable sunglasses but don’t have cash to splash? The Sadie sunglasses by Powder are really reasonable at £30.

Equipped with high sun glare protection and good UV protection, these specs come with the signature paisley-print cloth and collapsable box.

When the sun’s bright, we love dressing brighter so this orange, transparent design is just perfect for complementing sunny tones like pinks and yellows.

The plastic frame is elegantly thin down the sides with very subtle branding taking them up a notch from cheap ones you’d see on the high-street.

The lenses are quite dark too which works well for hiding all those late summer nights partying, if you know what we mean.

From black-on-black to clashing prints, we’re yet to find an outfit that the Sadie Sunglasses don’t look beautiful with.

What are the best sunglasses

Like haircuts and jeans, how good sunglasses are very dependant on the person wearing them.

The best way to find sunglasses is to first analyse your face shape. Is it diamond, square, round, triangle, heart-shaped, oblong or oval?

Here’s a rough guide that can help you…

Diamond face-shapes: oval frames or cat-eye sunnies.

Square face-shapes: oval, cat-eye or round frames.

Round face-shapes: square, semi-rimless or cat-eyes.

Triangle face-shapes: rounded square, rimless or oval frames.

Heart-shaped: oval, rimless or aviator frames.

Oblong: cat-eye, aviator or square.

Oval: rounded and bold frames.

Phew.

What is the best UV filter for sunglasses

The higher the UV rating on your sunnies, the better they are at protecting your eyes.

Those that are UV 400 will protect your eyes the most because it blocks all of the UVA and UVB rays with wavelengths that reach 400 nanometers.

What to look for in women’s sunglasses?

If you invest in a quality pair of sunglasses then they’ll not only protect your eyes properly but they’ll also last you through years of wear.

Once you find a pair with UV protection then you can simply find a pair that suits you and fits into the style that you want to channel.

Where to buy women’s sunglasses

Every high-street fashion store stocks sunnies and even supermarkets too.

Our favourite places to shop women’s sunglasses are Amazon (we know!), Selfridges, Farfetch, Asos and other well-known online shopping sites.

What does “polarised sunglasses” mean?

When glasses are polarised it means that they’ve been treated to decrease the effect of glare that reflects off of surfaces like the snow or water.

As they reduce bright reflections, polarised sunglasses are great if you’re driving.
