First of all, wow! Where by has summer time long gone? How can it quite possibly be September previously???
This is only heading to be a small weblog, but I just wanted to share a small fix work that I’ve been doing the job on right now. The consumer initially despatched me an e mail a handful of weeks ago, as she’d been explained to by a superior street jeweller that her sentimental gold dress ring, was not equipped to be resized. Que that tiny evil bit in my brain that just desires to prove them completely wrong and display that it IS possible, and voila! 1 resized garnet and pearl dress ring. Indeed, it IS a fragile ring, so she’s not heading to be capable to have on it every single day, but at minimum it now CAN be worn, instead than becoming destined to sit in a box without end!

It’s 9ct gold, set with garnets and pearls and is very fragile, but certainly not outside of fix. It’s a “dress ring” and will in no way have been intended to be worn all of the time.

The ring shank has some sensitive engraving all about it, and because it’s a pretty smaller ring, the hallmark took up most of the offered place, so I had to pick wherever to make the lower extremely carefully.
Including the new gold
It is all thanks to my Dado laser welder below. It meant that I could incorporate in a new section of gold and “weld” it in put without the need of risking heating (and ruining!) the pearls.
Cleaning up
The moment the new piece of gold was welded, it was just a situation of really cautiously cleansing up the joins.
Not forgetting the within.
The newer gold alloy was a marginally different color, but it’ll all mix in with a polish.
Ready to don!
Indeed, you can see the be a part of if you glance closely, but from time to time it is not all about totally hiding the new component. This ring was about preservation and making it wearable all over again.
Polished and completely ready for many much more decades!
A “very” careful polish so as not to injury those people fragile pearls, or to get rid of to much of the character. In my opinion, it’s appropriate for an antique to search as this sort of!
