Update: As of Oct. 15, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises that fully vaccinated people can participate in many of the activities that they did before the pandemic. The CDC advises wearing a mask indoors in public, particularly if someone in the household is unvaccinated or high-risk for disease. Children as young as five can get the vaccine and COVID-19 booster shots are also available for eligible people.

If you’re planning to do some holiday shopping at Scottsdale Fashion Square and around Old Town, there are plenty of dining and drinking options to chose from when you need a break.

Several hot spots from Los Angeles have made their Arizona debuts in Scottsdale and the Waterfront has local options ranging from chic brunch spots to high-end steakhouses. You might be there to shop, but you could easily spend the whole day eating — just be sure to check the dress codes at some of the fancier spots.

Here’s your guide to restaurants and bars near Scottsdale Fashion Square.

In 2020, world-famous chef Nobu Matsuhisa opened the first Arizona location of his namesake restaurant Nobu as part of the Scottsdale Fashion Square luxury wing expansion. Menu items at the luxurious Japanese restaurant include Nobu’s signature black cod with miso, smoked Wagyu dumplings, toro tataki with yuzu miso and scallop truffle chips, as well as sushi, nigiri and sashimi. There is also an omakase tasting menu available for $175 per person, but you should check ahead of time for current availability.

This French and Mediterranean fine dining restaurant also arrived in the Scottsdale Fashion Square luxury wing in 2020. Main dishes include a côte de boeuf featuring a 32 ounce ribeye steak seasoned with herbs de provence and oliveolive oil béarnaise and a whole branzino seasoned with a sea salt crust and fresh herbs and served with panisse, ratatouille and sauce vierge.

This steakhouse chain has 14 locations in the United States and eight international locations from Dubai to Mexico City. STK’s slogan is “not your daddy’s steakhouse,” and to drive the point home, each location has a resident DJ. Steak are sold in small, medium and large categories. The restaurant also offers a shellfish platter that can be scaled up according to group size and variety of salads and starters like jumbo lump crab cakes and sliders.

This is the place to enjoy a midday glass of pomelo rosé. The wine bar features rotating wines on tap, as well as beer, White Claws, hard kombucha, mimosas and wine cocktails. There’s also an extensive bottle list from which you can select $35 riesling or $895 rosé and many bottles in between. Bar bites include flatbreads, hummus board and smoked salmon with dill dip.

Across the bridge from Scottsdale Waterfront, this restaurant and tiki bar in Old Town Scottsdale serves up mai tais, sushi rolls and Polynesian-inspired burgers and plates.

Standouts from the menu include the Pu Pu Platter with Bali bottle rockets, chicken, shrimp, spicy teriyaki ribs, pork pot stickers and Mexi-Poly street corn; Crab Dynamite sushi rolls with crispy rice and spicy crab mix topped with spicy aioli, eel sauce and pico and Teriyaki ahi tuna steak served with grilled fried rice, corn salsa and jalapeño cream.

Whiskey lovers, head here. This bar’s reopening in 2019 came with great relief to fans of the Old Town Scottsdale mainstay. The high-end, speakeasy-style bar and restaurant, formerly known as Kazimierz World Wine Bar, reopened under new ownership as Kazimierz Wine and Whiskey Bar.

The name change reflects an updated drink selection with more whiskey, although the bar still has plenty of reds, whites and bubbles by the bottle or glass.

The fancy surf-and-turf restaurant from Chicago brings American Miyazaki steak, a full rack of Australian lamb, caviar and a fire-roasted, double-decker tower of seafood. Trust the chef’s choice? Try the “I Don’t Give A F*@k” tasting menu at $200 per person.

When he’s not making music with Tool, frontman Maynard James Keenan likes making wine. The rock star opened a tasting room for his northern Arizona wineries, Merkin Vineyards and Caduceus Cellars in Old Town this year.

The tasting room, located across the bridge from Scottsdale Waterfront, also features wines from Four Eight Wineworks, the wine cooperative Keenan owns and founded in Jerome. For bites there’s a selection of Italian tapas.

This swanky seafood and steak restaurant at bills itself as “a coastal dining experience in Scottsdale.” While the raw bar, wood-roasted shellfish and fresh seafood are the main stars, the restaurant also serves steaks for those who prefer read meat.

Some highlights from the menu include Maine Lobster Escargot consisting of chick lobster covered in truffle Mornay sauce and caviar; New Bedford Sea Scallop Gnocchi with browned butter, bread crumbs, parmesan – scallop mousse and truffle and Wood Roasted Spanish Octopus with yukon gold potato, tinkerbell peppers and crispy capers.

Another California restaurant made its debut in the Valley with Toca Madera. Serving upscale Mexican food, diners can expect a chic dining experience.

Along with the raw bar, taco options and fish of the day, diners can choose from a menu that includes: Scallops Amarillo featuring pan-seared diver scallops with ahi amarillo

salsa, chimichurri and lime-roasted pepitas; Yucatán-style Whole Fish featuring whole dorada, heirloom tomato sauce vierge with cucumber, radish and grilled cabbage jalapeño slaw. Served with house-made flour tortillas and charred lime and Mexican Fattoush featuring organic hearts of romaine lettuce, cherry tomato, radish, Tajín-dusted blue corn tortilla strips, queso fresco, red onion, cilantro, roasted ancho and salt vinaigrette.

Not every meal in Scottsdale has to cost more than $10. Neighboring its sister-concept Toca Madera, Tocaya Organica features a more affordable, health-conscious menu that has plenty of options to accommodate vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free diets.

The menu includes a variety of salads, tacos, bowls and burritos that diners can customize and the restaurant claims all its protein choices are free of hormones, steroids and antibiotics.

This Los Angeles-based café and wine bar serves French fare including chocolate croissants, tartines, steak frites, and charcuterie and cheese plates.

The European-style eatery aims to mimic the “escapes found in the South of France, Italy and Spain where guests can start with a cup of coffee and end with a glass of rosé,” according to a press release.
